Some organisations (particularly financial institutions) require written notice of an address change for security reasons rather than accepting a phone call or online change alone.
Do I need to notify every organisation individually when I move?
Yes, in most cases - there's no single national 'change of address' service that updates every organisation for you. Royal Mail's redirection service forwards post from your old address for a fee, but you should still notify banks, HMRC, your GP and other important contacts directly.
Can I change my address with HMRC or DVLA by post?
Yes, though both offer faster online services if you can verify your identity. A posted letter is a reliable alternative if you can't complete the online process, or if you want a written, signed record of the request.
Should I use Royal Mail's redirection service as well?
It's a sensible safety net for the first few months after moving, so anything sent to your old address by an organisation you haven't yet updated still reaches you, but it isn't a substitute for notifying important contacts directly.
