Send a PIP letter to the DWP
Send supporting evidence, a covering letter or a mandatory reconsideration request without a printer. You prepare the documents; we print and post them.

You can use Send Letters Online to print and post written Personal Independence Payment (PIP) correspondence to the DWP. Use the address on your latest PIP or decision letter for your particular matter, and check that printed copies are suitable before uploading supporting documents.
This is a printing and posting service, not a PIP application portal or benefits advice service. DWP phone and online routes may be more suitable if your deadline is close. We do not decide claims, assess evidence or guarantee that a request will be accepted.
What you can send to the PIP team
Supporting evidence
A covering letter and relevant supporting documents where DWP accepts printed copies. Follow the instructions accompanying your claim.
Mandatory reconsideration
A written request explaining which parts of a decision you disagree with and why. Address it to the office on the decision letter.
Replies and enquiries
Responses to a request for information or correspondence about an existing claim, using the reference and address DWP supplied.
How to prepare and post PIP correspondence
Check your latest DWP letter
Identify the address, reference, documents requested and deadline for your matter. A new claim, supporting evidence and reconsideration may use different instructions.
Prepare the letter and relevant evidence
State what you are asking DWP to do. Include identifying details required by DWP, and check every attachment is complete, readable and suitable as a printed copy.
Allow time for arrival
Check when the documents must arrive, not just when you can post them. Contact DWP directly if time is short or you need more time.
Review, choose postage and keep records
Check the address and preview before paying. Save the letter, attachments and order reference, plus the posting confirmation or tracking information when available.
Which address should a PIP letter go to?
For an existing claim or a decision you want reconsidered, use the contact details on the latest relevant DWP letter. There is no single address that is correct for all PIP correspondence. If you cannot find the letter, contact the PIP enquiry line through GOV.UK before sending.
GOV.UK gives separate instructions for starting a new claim, including a Freepost address. That new-claim address is not a universal destination for evidence or reconsiderations. Follow the instructions for your stage of the claim.
What to include in a PIP reconsideration letter
GOV.UK asks for the following details when requesting mandatory reconsideration. Explain the parts of the decision you think are wrong and why; relevant new evidence should support those reasons.
- Your name, address, date of birth and National Insurance number.
- The date of the original benefit decision and any reference on the letter.
- A clear request for mandatory reconsideration and your reasons.
- Relevant evidence you have not already sent, labelled with your name, date of birth and National Insurance number.
Check the deadline and the right process
You usually need to request mandatory reconsideration within one month of the date on the decision letter. GOV.UK says a written letter or form must arrive by then. If you are late, contact the office on your letter and explain the reason; acceptance is not automatic.
A mandatory reconsideration request is not a tribunal appeal. Follow the decision or reconsideration notice for the next stage. For the claim form about how your disability affects you, follow its own instructions and contact DWP if you need extra time.
Copies, privacy and your posting record
Only upload evidence relevant to your request. Check the printed preview, page order and signatures, and remove unrelated personal information. We print the file you provide; we cannot enclose the original physical form or original documents DWP sent you. If originals are required, arrange their return yourself.
Keep a copy of everything you send. Eligible orders in your account show a Send Letters Online confirmation of posting once physical posting has been verified. It is our branded record, not a postal operator-issued certificate, a payment receipt or proof that DWP accepted your evidence. Tracking, where included in your chosen service, is separate.

Frequently asked questions
Can I send PIP supporting evidence without a printer?
Yes. Upload your prepared letter and supporting documents where DWP accepts printed copies, then enter the address from your PIP correspondence. We print and post them; we do not check whether the evidence meets DWP requirements.
Can I request mandatory reconsideration by letter?
Yes. GOV.UK allows a request by letter, phone or the relevant form. Use the office on your decision letter, provide the identifying details and reasons requested, and make sure a written request arrives within the applicable deadline.
Can you post the original PIP form sent to me?
No. We print uploaded files and cannot enclose your original physical form. Check DWP instructions and use another postal arrangement if the original must be returned.
Does ordering a letter extend my PIP deadline?
No. An order or payment does not extend a DWP deadline. If time is short, contact DWP directly about the available contact routes or an extension.
Is this an official DWP service?
No. Send Letters Online is an independent printing and posting service. We do not submit an online benefits application, provide benefits advice or guarantee any claim or reconsideration outcome.
Does this guide apply in Scotland or Northern Ireland?
For a new claim in Scotland, GOV.UK directs applicants to Adult Disability Payment. Northern Ireland has a separate PIP process. Follow the authority and contact details on your own correspondence rather than assuming the DWP instructions apply.
